The first round of Holiday Tournament, with category: score, has ended. The results are:
Craven, Germany, has recently reached combo 927. Therefore, his combo improves by 12 floors, from combo 915. Unfortunately, according to NS-lists, his position in world rankings remains 6th. 5th place is still Jacob, Germany, with combo 955.
Congratulations and condolences to: Vinyanov, Poland: FML 619. devastator, Poland: combo 418, score 179480. Anemic, Poland: combo 299, score 94026. Romek z Ameryki, Poland: Hell Floor 74, Hell Floor 77. Roket, Israel: ISC5 5-5 FML 531. Morten, Denmark: FML 436, CCC2 276. Pisto-Letti, Poland: CCC1 123.
colorFool, the author of ChinChan the Icy Tower character, has registered on FLD forums. The ChinChan character is old, being created in 2004, and popular, being ranked 4 out of 5 stars on ITC. The related forum topic explains where was the character music adopted from.
Recently, several tournaments have started. Notably, the Holiday Tournament, hosted by jaraf, Poland, begins. The Holiday Tournament schedule covers almost entire July, from 1st to 21st. The tournament contains eight rounds. Each round lasts two days, and holds different category. After each round ends, each player receives the amount of points equal to the number of participants, reduced by the place taken. After the tournament ends, the player with most points overall wins.
Also, the End of School tournament, hosted by kwasek, Poland, starts 3rd July. Note: Mizi Mace, Germany, and Kazuya, Germany, have joined both Holiday Tournament and End of School. Mizi has combo 638, and Kazuya has combo 904, according to score and combo topic at mizimace.de forums. However, Mizi Mace is an active player ranked highly in Individual Matchpoints rankings. Currently, he holds 8th place. Kazuya, on the other hand, has been inactive lately, and made a sudden comeback to FLD forums after 4 months of absence. Only recently, at 23rd June, he visited mizimace.de forums, where he announced his FML 785.
Finally, Polish Summer Tournament, hosted by redaV, Poland, had started. The first round, which spanned 26th to 27th June, has ended. The results were: 1. Anemic, Poland, 2. Klaud, Poland, 3. jaraf, Poland. However, the second and third rounds were abandoned, and the tournament was forgotten.
Roket, Israel, has made Multi Combo 1359. The game breaks the Multi Combo world record by 18 floors. The previous record was 1341, also by Roket. Curiously, the game consists entirely of Splendid! combos, which are: 147, 147, 141, 147, 143, 145, 150, and 143. This way, it easily becomes the best Multi Splendid! replay ever, with 8 repetitions. The second replays, with 3 repetitions both, belong to Davo, Australia, and Romek z Ameryki, Poland, according to Rewards List topic.
FreewareFan, Norway, has reported an Icy Tower bug. The bug, encountered by other players too, causes the game to occasionally crash, when the player views the replay with ultra-fast speed. The bug only occurs when the game ends on extremely low floors, or on floor 0.
Congratulations to: Vinyanov, Poland: JC5 60. jaraf, Poland: floor 758. Pisto-Letti, Poland: combo 80, CCC1 107.
Roket, Israel, has recorded Multi Combo 1306. While this result nearly improves the world record in Multi Combo (1341, also by Roket), it is notable through something else. Its two first combos, 816 and 222, together compose Double No way! 1038. This is both: the highest Double No way! ever recorded, and: the first Double No way! to span over 1000 floors. The second best player, Boru, Poland, has only reached 981 floors (combos 762 and 219). Sources: All your highscores and Rewards List topics.
Update: other topic mentions Double No way! 1191 (593 and 598), also by Roket.
Boru, Poland, has reached floor 1857, improving from floor 1796. The result becomes 5th best floor worldwide, according to the NS-lists. The replay was recorded today, around 16:00, and submitted to kiuna.se highscore list via the Highscores Uploader.
Boru has beaten Fabian, Poland, with 1825 (by 32 floors), and John Beak, Czech Rep., with 1852 (by 5 floors). Also, the replay becomes the Polish national highscore in floor. The previous national highscore belonged to Fabian, with mentioned 1825 floors. Curiously, Fabian has reached even higher result, on ITFC 5-5, also 1857 floors high. This way, the Polish record for highest reached floor ever, independently from conditions, is actually tied.
Lakan, a newly-registered FLD user, has created a tool which automatically submits replays to highscore lists. The tool, called Highscore Uploader, consists of two components. The first component are two compiled programs. These programs detect all replays the player records, and submit them to the highscore lists. The second component are several PHP scripts. These scripts allow highscore list administrators to accept and store the program-submitted replays.
After the player downloads the programs, he chooses the target highscore list, and his desired display username. Then, he executes the program, and runs Icy Tower. The program, while running, will detect all newly recorded Icy Tower replays, and upload them to the list. Currently, the only list that accepts the program-submitted replays, (ie, is HU-compatible), is the demonstrative highscore list, made by Lakan himself.
The attached PHP scripts may be:
Unfortunately, currently all submitted replays are signed „Harold”. This reduces the usefulness of the program, but this defect will possibly become fixed.
Congratulations and condolences to: Mithrandir, Poland: FML 367. hjpotter92, India: NML 190. Vinyanov, Poland: CCC1 164.
At June 12th, kwasek, Poland, has announced the Mini Quick Match tournament. The tournament was indented to start June 18th, and end June 20th. However, the tournament failed, was not performed, and was eventually cancelled. After 10 days, at June 22nd, kwasek announced another tournament, the End of School tournament. The End of School tournament is planned to start July 4th, and end July 8th.
However, dates of the End of School tournament overlap with another tournament, the Holiday Tournament, organised by jaraf, Poland. jaraf’s tournament is scheduled to last from July 1st to July 21st. Both jaraf and kwasek want their tournaments to attain the IM-tournament status. This is problematic, because dates of Individual Matchpoints tournaments are not allowed to overlap. The schedule of IM tournaments is managed by Craven, Germany, and it is him, who determines the eventual dates of IM events.
The conflict between the two tournaments has provoked some comments. Among other voices, Stipe, Croatia has mentioned, that he will probably organise another event between July and August.
Roket, Israel, has made Multi Combo 1341. The game consists of 7 combos: 278, 116, 441, 143, 188, 71, and 104. This result highly improves Roket’s previous result, Multi Combo 1191, which was also a world record. As noted, the result is higher than the highest continuous combo ever, the slowed down combo 1337 by John Beak, Czech Rep.
Congratulations and condolences to: King DareK, Poland: NML 721. maxxx, Czech Rep.: combo 578, FML 599. Klaud, Poland: NML 413, NML: 462, NO-H2O: 412, floor: 557. jaraf, Poland: FNAA 307. Doob, Poland: FNAA 308, FNAA 320. mattirab, Poland: FNAA 303. Boru, Poland: FNAA 331. Vinyanov, Poland: FNAA 331, FNAA 334, FNAA 336.
The second and last round of FNAA Tournament, hosted 18th-19th June 2008, has ended. Out of nine signed-up players, all from Poland, five had participated. The tournament was organised at Icy.pl forums. Vinyanov, Poland, has twice reached the highest result and, until the category played gains more recognition, holds the world record. The results of the second round are:
The total rankings are identical:
Results of BIG [TOURNAMENT], hosted 7th-15th June 2008, were posted. The tournament was hosted by PeRs, Czech Rep., at IcyTower.cz forums. Only three players had participated, all from Czech Republic, and the total rankings are:
Jacob, Germany, has made combo 955, improving from combo 905. This advancement moves him from 6th to 5th place in combos, according to the NS-Lists. Jacob beat Craven, Germany, with 915. Now, ahead of him is Piero, Germany, with 1009.
Congratulations and condolences to: Syo, Poland: FML 567. KinG DareK, Poland: JC2 258. Romek z Ameryki, Poland: 2up1d 49, 2up1d 53. 2up1d 54, 2up1d 55 (a world record, tied with John Beak, Czech Rep., King DareK, Poland, and Craven, Germany, by NS-lists). hjpotter92, India: Combo 77, Score 10072.
The FNAA tournament, one of the several tournaments announced recently at the Icy.pl forums, has started today. The tournament, organised by Pisto-Letti, Poland, is a multi-stage competition. This means, players’ results from every round are summed up, and eventually determine the players’ standings. The tournament comprises two rounds, the second one taking place tomorrow. The category being played is FNAA, a recent, mixed game style. The style requires every other 50 floors to be played in UNML style. In other words, floors 0-50 are UNML, 50-100 are freestyle, 100-150 are UNML again, etc. The acronym stands for: For N00bs and Advanced.
The standings after the 1st round are:
The password for the first round was KMO
. The password for the second round is CHH

The English Wikipedia article on Icy Tower has been cleaned-up. Also, data were added, and quotations were provided. Consequently, the label which assigned the article to immediate deletion has been removed. Still, the notability of the article is not determined. The article still needs to cite third-party publications about Icy Tower. Until then, its noteworthiness will remain unproved, and it will face the threat of deletion.
Two new tournaments have been announced at Icy.pl forums:
Organizers of both tournaments are newly registered forum users.
Congratulations and condolences to: Davo, Australia: Hell-CUNML 13. Vinyanov, Poland: Gravity 2.0 Floor 72. Romek z Ameryki, Poland: Multi Splendid! 141 + 179 + 151 + 146. At 13th June, 14:57, the English Wikipedia entry on Icy Tower has been nominated for deletion. Precisely, the article was tagged with the proper notice. The notice describes the current concerns of the article, and designates the article for deletion, if they are not addressed within the next five days. The arguments against the Icy Tower article are:
Fails to meet Wikipedia’s general notability guideline because this topic is not written about in any reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Non-notable because article is only supported by primary sources.
The article had been suggested for deletion once more, at 21st December 2006, but back then, the contributors decided to maintain it. Interestingly, the Polish Wikipedia entry is a Featured Article, a status which denotes high quality article.
Roket, Israel, has made FML 1132, and hence improved his own world record. By the way, his previous result, FML 1115, was only 7 floors higher than the result of Piero, Germany, with FML 1108. Still, Roket’s highest combo is 161 floors higher than Piero’s, beating him as high as 1222 to 1061, according to NS-lists and Icy.pl.
Update: Jacob, Germany, has made FML 919, beating Craven, Germany, by 4 floors.
Yesterday evening, sign-ups for the Icy.pl 2008 meeting (1, 2) have started. The participants confirm their presence in a separate forum thread. Then, they are added to a separate user group. Currently, participants whose presence has been confirmed are: petr, kwasek, Piero, Pirochemik (Azan), SaleiB, and Vinyanov, all from Poland. Update: also Boru, Poland. Update: also Artur, Poland.
Within the last few days, several mobile games-oriented sites have published a set of high resolution screenshots from Icy Tower Mobile. The set contains five screenshots, two showing the original skin, and three showing the modern skin. From the closeups we can learn, among others, the details of available characters, floors, walls, and user interface. The characters include Harold and the cheerleader known from the game’s official trailer.
Recently, FLD forums and Icy.pl forums witness announcements of multiple tournaments. There are:
jaraf expressed interest in his tournament receiving the Individual Matchpoints status. Also, petr, Poland, the administrator of Icy.pl, mentioned that Turbo Tournament 8 and Championships of Poland 2008 will take place in the near future (1, 2).
Lately, two former Icy.pl users have visited its forums again. They were shifty102, Poland, an intermediate player, and Broda, Poland, an advanced combo player. The latter posted three results: FML 462 and combo 406 and 416, which are comparable to his highscores in Icy Tower 1.2, FML 470 and combo 472.
Congratulations and condolences to: maxxx, Czech Rep: FML 572. Vinyanov, Poland: Hell combo 32, NML CCC1 103, NML CCC2 189, NML CCC3 266, NML CCC4 349, NML CCC5 443, NML TF 1350. hjpotter92: score 8206, floor 402. Boru, Poland: Hell floor 91. Romek z Ameryki, Poland: CCC1 165, CCC2 277, CCCC4 407, CCCC2 259. jaraf, Poland: combo 255.
TeamGhost, a newly-registered user of FLD forums, has created a trainer for Icy Tower 1.3. The trainer, called Score Patcher, allows the player to dynamically change the in-game amount of score. The utility is harmless, since a game with dynamically changed score value would not contain keypresses that correspond to that value, and its replay would be useless. The trainer has no other features, heavily losing to Icy Tower Trainer by RaMMicHaeL, Russia.
At 10:14, Jacob, Germany, has reached FML 886. Later, at 11:47, he recorded combo 905. These results are, respectively, current 6th highest FML and 6th highest combo, according to NS-lists. Jacob’s form continues since 29th May 2008, when he reached combo 645. Since then, he quickly reached combo 724, FML 763, combo 809, and FML 810. The 905 combo is noteworthy, since it narrowly beats several other top players. At 7th place, there is Kazuya, Germany, with combo 904, and at 8th place, there is Boru, Poland, with combo 902.
Overall, the NS-highscore lists are undergoing serious changes. Piero’s change of nationality and Jacob’s outbreak of highscores, combined, have doubled the number of German names on the list. Currently, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th best combos all belong to Germany. As Roket, Israel, estimates, the country is now close to breaking the barrier of 100 points in national rankings. Germany’s recent improvements have most severly affected Poland. Admittedly, Poland now loses to Israel, despite having five times more representants.
Curiously, both Piero and Jacob are native Polish speakers.
King DareK, Poland, has reached JC3 210, and became the third player in world, according to the NS-highscore lists. DareK beat Roket, Israel, with JC3 204, and becomes the fourth player ever with JC3 200+. Ahead of him are Craven, Germany, 234, and John Beak, Czech Rep., 246.
Piero, Poland, the country’s top score player with combo 1009, has recently changed his nationality at Icy Tower Community and NS-highscore lists, from Polish to German. As Craven, Germany, noted, this suddenly grants Piero national German highscore in score and combo. Craven, the previous national record-holder with combo 915, now falls to the second places in both categories.
Vinyanov, Poland, has translated the description of Icy Tower palette from Polish to English. Icy Tower uses palettes of indexed images to determine the actual colours of its graphics. Knowing the purpose of each index of the palette, character makers can easily change their values, and modify the appearance of the game. This is possible by creating, and playing, a character with a changed palette. The original description was made by Neo, Poland, for the Icy.pl website.
